Teaching Philosophy
I believe that anyone has the capability to suceed in General Chemistry, the work required to do so, however, varies per individual. I hope to reduce barriers to succes by providing resources like video lectures, mini video lectures, classwork notes, study tools, office hours, and more to all my students. These resources allow me to use our class time more efficiently and practice fundamental skills together while giving students worthwhile tools to learn and study chemistry outside the classroom.
I also strive to guide students on finding what works for them in learning and in studying and in differentiating between those two states. The hardest lesson to learn is that what you did before, in high school or other STEM classes, just doesn't work in chemistry and maybe you actually have never "studied" before.
Learning chemistry is like crocheting a stuffed animal for the first time. I can show you how to do it, I can have you practice and watch videos, but at the end of the day if you've only re-read the instructions over and over you haven't made it. If you've only read the notes, you haven't studied it yet.
I hope to help my students reach their goals and become the studier that gets them there.
