As the first Adelphi alumnus and parent鈥攁nd the first Long Island native鈥攖o serve as president of the University, Balboni is intimately familiar with the transformative power of an Adelphi education. He graduated cum laude from the University in 1981 with a degree in biology and is the proud parent of an Adelphi alumna. Throughout his career, he has continually served his alma mater, including as an adjunct faculty member and, most recently, as a distinguished member and chair of the board of trustees.

Balboni emerged from a national search as the leader best positioned to secure public-private partnerships, champion the University regionally and nationally, and drive institutional growth. A defining hallmark of Balboni’s career鈥攆rom his roles in government to corporate boardrooms鈥攈as been his ability to build relationships, work with experts and forge consensus. He steps into the presidency fiercely committed to shared governance, protecting academic freedom and ensuring that the Adelphi campus remains a vibrant, inclusive environment for all students and faculty to thrive in.

In tandem with this announcement, Adelphi鈥檚 board named Christopher K. Storm Jr., PhD, who has served as Adelphi鈥檚 interim president since last June, to the newly created role of senior executive vice president of academic affairs and provost. This complementary leadership structure allows the provost to focus internally on teaching, research and student outcomes, while President Balboni manages the complex operational and external facets of the University.

鈥淭he landscape of higher education is undergoing rapid and profound changes,鈥 said William Fuessler 鈥79, acting chair of the board of trustees and chair of the University鈥檚 Presidential Search Committee. 鈥淭o thrive, Adelphi requires a president who is a relentless external advocate and a proven executive. Michael possesses the exact blend of operational strength and external advocacy we need.鈥

“I am thrilled to be returning to my alma mater to lead a community that means so much to me. It truly is a full-circle moment,” said president-elect Balboni. “I have watched how the University has progressed, and I look forward to working with Dr. Storm and the entire community to take Adelphi to new heights as the premier institution of higher learning on Long Island.鈥

鈥淚t has been a tremendous honor to serve as interim president of Adelphi, where I have spent my entire 20-year career,鈥 shared Dr. Storm. 鈥淭he past year provided me with new opportunities to deepen my connections across campus while maintaining the University鈥檚 strong, stable footing before taking our next leap forward. I very much look forward to working with Michael Balboni as we embark on a bold new direction for Adelphi.鈥

Balboni assumes leadership at a time of remarkable advancement and financial strength for Adelphi. The University boasts a balanced budget, a $282 million endowment and a highly successful $100 million fundraising campaign that is nearing its goal. Underscoring this position of strength, Adelphi has achieved record enrollment in two of the past three years and is launching an ambitious infrastructure initiative to further support student and faculty success.

Adelphi continues to elevate its academic profile. Recognized by Forbes as the premier private university on Long Island, the institution pairs this academic prestige with its reputation as one of the safest campuses in America and an NCAA Division II athletics powerhouse. Looking ahead, the University is actively expanding its regional impact through the new Manhattan Center on Fifth Avenue in New York City, delivering high-demand graduate programs in artificial intelligence, business, nursing, social work, psychology, literature and education to meet the evolving needs of the modern workforce.

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

Nearly 400 Adelphi students currently rely on federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to meet their basic food needs. With reports that these benefits could be halted as soon as November 1 due to the , many in our community may soon face serious food insecurity.

We also know of 25 students whose homes have been affected by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica and Haiti. Our Division of Student Affairs is reaching out directly to offer assistance, and these students will likewise benefit from our support resources.

At Adelphi, we believe food insecurity should never stand in the way of student success or Adelphi鈥檚 mission to transform lives. To prepare and respond, we are taking proactive steps by:

  • Expanding access and giving to the Panther Pantry to provide immediate food and household essentials
  • Providing direct financial assistance through the Student Emergency Fund to help offset the impact of lost benefits

The Student Emergency Fund

This fund provides direct financial assistance to students experiencing unforeseen financial hardship that could interrupt their education. To strengthen this safety net, my family and I will personally match all gifts to the Student Emergency Fund, up to $14,000, now through GivingTuesday on December 2. Every dollar raised will go directly to students affected by financial hardship, like the kind that could result from this disruption. Your gift will be doubled by the match.

  • Anyone can to the Student Emergency Fund.
  • Students can for emergency financial help through the fund.

I invite all who are able to help support this fund. For GivingTuesday, Adelphi鈥檚 broad network of alumni, donors and friends will also be invited to contribute, in solidarity with our campus community.

The Panther Pantry

Located in Earle Hall, Room 003, our Panther Pantry offers food, personal care items and household essentials鈥攃onfidentially and free of charge鈥攖o any Adelphi student, faculty or staff member in need. We have expanded the pantry鈥檚 hours so that you can walk in or for pickup:

  • Monday鈥揟uesday: 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday鈥揊riday: 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday evening hours: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Our community may also support the expanded operations of our Panther Pantry in a few ways:

  • Make a .
  • Donate nonperishable food, personal care and household items. Donations can be brought to the Center for Student and Community Engagement office in the University Center, Room 123, Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
  • Volunteer to assist with pantry operations, food distribution or outreach. To volunteer, email divisionofstudentaffairs@adelphi.edu.
  • Help spread the word to ensure every Panther knows this resource is here for them.

Even if SNAP is preserved through last-minute emergency funding by government entities, we see this as a call to action to do all we can to reduce food insecurity, which should never stand in the way of student success or Adelphi鈥檚 mission to transform lives. Together, our caring, connected community acts with compassion and purpose when they are needed the most. This is the heart of Adelphi.

With gratitude,

Dear Adelphi Community,

I鈥檓 saddened to share the news that 每日大赛 Board of Trustees Member Emerita Angela Jaggar 鈥62, MA 鈥65, PhD, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025.

Remembered fondly for her intellect, generosity and warmth, Angela鈥檚 transformative impact on the University and our students will endure for generations to come. She served with distinction as a member of our Board of Trustees from 2008 to 2020. Angela and her late husband, Scott Jaggar, are members of Adelphi鈥檚 Million Dollar Roundtable, having made lifetime contributions exceeding $1 million to the University. Together, they established the Angela and Scott Jaggar Scholarship for students in financial need and committed $875,000 to support the Jaggar Community Fellows Program, which was named in their honor. Angela later established the Louise and Joseph Maestri Scholarship Fund, in honor of her parents, to benefit students studying early childhood literacy.

The Jaggar Community Fellows Program, established in 2013, is perhaps the best representation of Angela鈥檚 commitment to student success and to supporting the non-profit ecosystem within our region. Each year, the program offers up to 70 Adelphi students life-changing paid internships at local non-profit organizations, enabling them to serve the community while gaining meaningful, hands-on career experience.

Angela began her career as an elementary school teacher in Plainview, Long Island, after graduating from Adelphi. She then earned a PhD and entered the field of higher education, teaching and conducting research in children鈥檚 language and literacy development at New York University. During more than 30 years at NYU, she co-founded the University鈥檚 Reading Recovery Project, which she co-directed for 10 years. Angela has held numerous leadership roles in professional education associations throughout her career, including serving as president of the National Conference on Research in Language and Literacy. Her book,, remains a widely read resource in the field.

She was also actively involved in several non-profits that serve children, education, and the arts, including as a board member of the Family and Children鈥檚 Association, Women on the Job, Literacy Volunteers of NYC (now Literacy Partners) and the Belmont Childcare Association.

I was fortunate to get to know Angela in recent years, having connected with her at the many Adelphi functions she attended and at Usdan, a Long Island summer camp for the Arts. We were especially grateful that she was able to join us at last year鈥檚 Gala as we celebrated her extraordinary legacy of philanthropy and unveiled the new Million Dollar Roundtable display in Nexus. I came to know her as a wonderful individual with a quick wit and deep integrity.

The 每日大赛 Board of Trustees and I send our deepest condolences to Angela鈥檚 brother, George Maestri; nieces Kristen, Nicole, Lisa and Kathy; nephews John, Thomas and Michael; and her many dear friends. Maggie Yoon Grafer, associate vice president for University Advancement & External Relations, attended private services on behalf of the University.

With sympathy,
Chris

Christopher Storm, PhD
Interim President
